ABANTU for Development in collaboration with Cocoa Life commemorated this year’s International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 under the theme: “Strengthening Innovation for Promoting Gender Equality in the Cocoa Life Programme”.

This year the focus was primarily on celebrating the achievements of the Cocoa Life Gender Dialogue Platforms (GDPs) and women cocoa farmer associations as an innovation for enhancing gender equality, socio-economic activism and women’s leadership.

The celebration brought together various stakeholders in the Cocoa Industry including Women Cocoa Farmers from production areas across Ghana.

Madam Yaa Peprah Amekudzi, Country Director, Cocoa Life Ghana Program, in her address urged the women farmers to endeavor to incorporate technology in their everyday farming activities to help increase farm productivity. She drew from the example of how the blender helped revolutionized grinding foods in the kitchen.

Executive Director, ABANTU for Development, Rose Mensah Kutin, also echoed on the importance of adopting modern tools in farming to enhance productivity also citing the example of modern tools such as pruners instead of cutlasses in farming.
